A Weiss Manfréd és testvére által 1892-ben alapított lőszergyár az évtizedek alatt az ország legnagyobb ipari vállalatává nőtte ki magát. Munkások ezreit foglalkoztatták a mai Csepel Művek területén, és szinte mindent gyártottak, ami eladható volt, a gombostűtől a repülőgépig. A rendszerváltozásig egységet képező vállalatcsoport a kilencvenes években fokozatosan megszűnt, átalakult, felaprózódott, és sokan csődbe mentek. Jelenleg kétszáznál is több cég próbál megélni a kb. 200 hektáros, az egyre inkább idősödő és omladozó területen.

Csepel Works 2008
The ammunition factory established by Manfred Weisz and his
brother in 1892 grew during the decades into the largest
industrial complex of the country. On the territory of what today
is called as the Csepel Works thousands of workers were
employed, and they manufactured practically everything that
could be sold – from metal pins to airplanes. The unified
company group gradually disintegrated, broke up into several
small companies and many went bankrupt during the 1990s.
Currently several companies try to make ends meet on the 200
hectare territory surrounded by old and increasingly crumbling walls.
