That's according to the 10 commandments of the Italian organised crime network which this week saw one of its biggest bosses arrested and charged. When police stormed the home of Sicilian Mafia chief Salvatore Lo Piccolo they found among his papers the "Rights and Duties" to be a good mobster in the Cosa Nostra network. In something that sounds more at home in a Hollywood script, the list was designed to rein in the wayward and flamboyant behaviour of some of the Mafia's younger members and reinstate the old moral code of honour among thieves ... and murderers, racketeers, money launderers etc. With organised crime worth an estimated $130 billion, or 7 per cent of Italy's gross domestic product, the code is also aimed at maintaining good business. According to the list, members must treat their wives with respect, avoid looking at each other's wives, keep out of bars and clubs, never be seen with police, respect appointments and be punctual, tell the truth and treat Cosa Nostra as a duty. The list, found typed on a single sheet kept in Lo Piccolo's leather case, also dictates a Mafia member can never approach a rival without a third person present and you can never be a mobster if you have a close relative in the police, you have a two-timing relative or "anyone who doesn't hold to moral values".
