Frederick Wilfred – London Photographs 1955-1965
Museum of London
Frederick Wilfred (1925-2010) was born in Islington. A professional photographer, he specialized in portraiture, for which he won numerous awards. From the late-50s to the mid-60s, he made a series of remarkable photographs of London street life. Collectively, they form a fascinating portrait of a society emerging from the effects of the Second World War. Yet, he exhibited rarely and many of these images have never been seen before. Following Wilfred’s death, his son donated 134 of them to the Museum.

Fred Wilfred didn’t leave much information about the photographs, so if you recognise a location or someone, perhaps even yourself, please email us at fred@museumoflondon.org.uk.
