11th-14th century. Between 1456 and about 1590 it was the patriarchal church of the Greek Ortodox community. Then it became a mosque and the Patriarchate moved to its present location in Fener. The side chapel contains mosaics equal in artistry to those in the Church of St. Savior in Chora (Kariye Camii).
